Nine Tops members weighed in and all stayed for the meeting on Monday evening, March 23. Martha Thompson earned the diet basket. Phyllis Hasenkamp had the program on “Proverbs with a Twist.” She also showed pictures of her trip to Ireland.
The Historical society had a large attendance at the Salem Lutheran Church basement Sunday afternoon March 29. Nathan Shrock of rural route, Axtell told about the Amish customs and life style. He answered many questions about the Amish. Four families moved into Lincoln Township over a year ago. it was a very interesting program. Those that attended from Vermillion were Dorothy Tilley, Jim, Lois Jean and John Harper and Thelma Gaddis. Refreshments were served following the program.
Daisy Schober, Brad, Gayla and Brandon Schober of Centralia attended a wedding shower for Neil Schober’s fiancie in Topeka Sunday afternoon.
Marsha Isaman of Centralia visited Glen Isaman on Friday March 27.
A meeting was held at the Vermillion School on Thursday, March 26. to discuss the organizing of the “Friends of the Vermillion Community” non-profit corporation. The charge was to examine and adopt by-laws and name a board to meeting once a year. The by-laws for the organization were reviewed and amended by those present. A meeting will be held May 24 at the Vermillion school and a membership drive will be conducted. The by-laws and board members that were nominated will be approved at this meeting.
The purpose of the corporation is to assist in the preservation, maintenance and beautification of the Vermillion community historic sites such as the railroad depot, library, school, park, city monuments and related environs. There is no cost to put the non-profit status in place and it will serve all Vermillion residents. Non-residents such as alumni and relatives of current residents as well as other interested parties, may make contributions to indicated interest areas with this tax deduction status available. A non-profit organization is an efficient way to share responsibilities which will support projects needed by the community.
