The cost for the 150th “Then and Now” book has not yet been determined.  When we know more about the cost we will forward the information.  Interest is already being shown as there are those who have already pre-ordered.

Vermillion Area News

Winter hit Vermillion on Saturday morning with about 5” of snow.  We were grateful there was no wind and the temperature was tolerable.   The snow was beautiful and still lays on the side roads that have not been touched other than by cars making notable tracks.  Several snow mobiles ventured out, but no further sign interrupts the beautiful landscape.

The Vermillion Public Library meeting will be held this evening, Monday, January 14th at 6:00 p.m. and tomorrow, January 15th the librarian will read to the Kinder-prep children from the Centralia, Corning and Frankfort areas.   The Book Van arrived at the library on January 8th with new books and the public is invited to come in and check them out.  There were several faithful readers, one arriving while the book van was refilling the shelves, and waited to get the latest books ahead of anyone else.

One of our own, Sheryl M. Massie was passed away on December 31, 2018 and her funeral was Saturday, January 5th.  The community was saddened to hear of her passing and the funeral which was held at the Vermillion Community Church, was very well attend with the overflow and church pews filled to overflowing.    Our sympathy is extended to the family.

Church services continue to be held at the now Community Church through April of 2019 or until further notice.  The January 13th church service was notable as Virgil Warren and wife Ruth Ann left for a lengthy visit to their daughter and husband who live in Australia.   Terry Smith filled pulpit on Sunday by sharing a combined music and inspirational scripture reading service.   A visiting minister will fill the pulpit on January 20th with Virgil returning on January 27th.   The Community Church is struggling to keep its doors open as there are very few members remaining in the area.  We welcome first time visitors and those who have attended before that wish to make Vermillion their home church.

If you have missed the Vermillion Area News, preparing the “Vermillion Then and Now” took much of the time and effort normally put into the weekly news.  For this I apologize.  The 150th book went to publishing January 3rd with pictures the following week.  Plans are to follow the books progress to ensure completion by the April deadline.   We are excited about the articles and pictures submitted and look forward to having the book ready for viewing and marketing.  Pre-book orders are welcome and will be a determining factor in how many books are printed.  Email  verlibrary@gmail.com to put in your order.
